March Employees of the Month

Each month, nominations are accepted from throughout the district to honor individuals who make significant contributions to our schools. Chosen for March from the nominees are two individuals who exceed expectations.

St. Helens teacher Heather Slind (left) is in her fourth year with LPS. Her nominator noted that she goes above and beyond in her job expectations every single day. She has a consistent positive attitude with some of the most challenging students. Heather has a growth mind-set when it comes to serving out students and seeing the impact. Heather moved 70% of her “intensive” students to “strategic” this last winter, as measured by DIBELS.

Long-time MOTF team member Barbara Howe (right) is the classified employee of the month. Barbara is currently the Maintenance and Grounds secretary known for her work ethic. She is a detail-oriented employee who spends time each day ensuring that policies and procedures are followed. She works hard to make sure the work-order process is efficient and complete as possible for our Maintenance and Grounds staff. This helps keep budgets and schedules within set parameters.

January Employees of the Month

St. Helens Literacy Specialist Crystal Allen (above right) goes beyond her duties at the school and is recognized as January Certificated Employee of the month. She began her career as a classroom teacher in 2006 and has been a cornerstone of the school since then. Crystal plans the Literacy Night; knows many of St. Helen’s families on a first name basis; and supports students, teachers, and all staff at the school. Additionally, she is currently supporting a High School student in Reading. Crystal’s commitment to education stretches beyond the walls of a school as she supports staff and students districtwide.

This is what is said about the Classified Employee of the month Kiz Schumann (at left): “Kiz’s positivity and willingness to assist beyond her assigned responsibilities are greatly appreciated.”

Kiz joined the LPS team as a sub secretary in 1997 and transitioned to a permanent employee of the district in February 2003. She has remained a constant figure of the Leadership and Learning team for the past 15 years. Her knowledge and willingness have proven to be a great asset as the department has grown and changed through different directors. Every morning, without fail, Kiz enthusiastically greets everyone with a smile and an encouraging word; an unofficial cheerleader of the administration building. She goes beyond the call of duty to ensure that our staff attain the professional development that is required to maintain their credentials and improve their salaries. She is always willing to lend a helping hand and offers often.
